A swap meet for educators to share ideas, resources, experiences and questions about project-learning.
What is a swap meet?
A swap meet is basically an event where people come together to 'swap' their stuff. Often swap meets are run so that people can make money, but that's where this swap meet is a little different. We hope that EVERYONE will profit from this swap meet but no one will profit financially - this is an entirely not-for-profit, DIY (do-it-yourself) event.
Why are we calling it a swap meet?
It makes sense. Basically we're planning (kinda planning and kinda not planning) a day for people from all levels of education - from our youngest students to our oldest - to come together to swap what they know (and don't know) about project-learning and what it might bring to the learners we have in our care. The whole day will be discussion and action based. There will be NO polished plenary and NO polished presentations.
What's going to happen?
There are two main parts to #PLSM13Balimore. During the day will be the SWAP MEET and in the evening will be the PUB CHAT (totally optional!). If you want to know more, well you'll just have to apply to attend to find out. This event is made by the people who attend it, so really we can't tell you much more about it.
How much does it cost?
The event is completely free. Why? Because this is not about making money. This is about making steps toward the changes to education that we want to see. This is about action. How can it be free? Our spaces are generously donated by enthusiastic and inspired people - from libraries, museums and art galleries to other groovy public spaces. It's BYO food and drink (bring it or buy it) and there will be no showbags or merch.
Want to attend #PLSM13Baltimore?
Places are limited to 40. Ten from each key level of edu - elementary, middle/high school and college... and a bonus ten from who knows where! The number is intentionally low - everyone attending will be involved in the day. There is no sitting back and watching. Because the numbers are so low, attendance is via application only. If you're a frustrated educator who wants to get your hands dirty planning exciting, crazy, inspired, risky, challenging projects with like-minded educators, then fill in the application form below ... we look forward to meeting you!
